Computer System Considerations

Computer System Considerations

Considering some of the questions associated with Computer Systems -

1. Are you actually in control of your computer systems? Not only what you think you  do with them, but what your staff actually do with them?

People in offices have a habit of using their office computer as they do their home computer. It can range from blatantly loading games onto the system for their downtime or lunchbreak; to creating work-related files that breach the Data Protection Act.

2. If you have control of your computers how secure are they? Does everyone have access to the Internet?

The Internet is a wonderful place, but surfing the net has great potential to infect your computers with something you don't want; but worse some of the sites visited contain items that you really would not want on your work computers. How about laptops, they are wonderful for working from home, easy to use outside, but so easily the carrier of bad news such as viruses.

3. You have control, you have the security, so what about the Systems you are using?

Computers work most efficiently using the principles of minimum input for maximum output. Do you input the same information more than once? If you do, you should look at your Systems. Each time you input the same information you incur a cost, and increase the chance of errors producing conflicting information.

You need to consider how you manage the information  that you possess. It is a valuable commodity, don't squander it!
