Private Tuition

Before even considering using a computer consider the following - "Don't panic!" is probably the most important thing you will ever need to know.

Everyone says 'Computing is easy', which is very off putting if you don't know a lot about computers and you seem to be struggling.

In fact 'computing' is like so many other things that we do. We start off knowing nothing, with only a desire to do things we have seen others doing. So we learn. Sometimes, if the object of our desires is complicated like driving a car, we have to go to the experts. Even then it may not seem easy to pick up the skills, but we manage, and then we can do what others do just as we wanted all along.

Computing is like that! Different people pick up things at different rates. But it is often the slower learner who ends up with the best grasp of the skill.

You too can learn how to use a computer in the way that you want.

You can go to computer classes at a computer centre. In a lot of cases you commit yourself to going to the centre at a fixed time every week, where they decide what they are going to teach you. You use their computers, which may be different to yours, and in company with others who may pick it up easier than you. For a lot of people that does not suit at all.

That is where Barry can help. He appreciates the position of those who cannot settle to classroom learning, and who have a good idea of what they want to know. His Services are designed to help all levels of knowledge from total beginner to those who are good in one area, but want to expand their knowledge in others. This assistance is provided in your own home, with your own computer, so what you learn is guaranteed to work.

ALL Services are provided at your home address, at an appointment time decided by you, on your computer, on a visit by visit basis. For the Home Tuition you decide what you want to know on a visit by visit basis. Times, frequency and subject for each tutorial are at the total discretion of the client.

For Home Tuition, a FREE half-hour session is provided preceding the first lesson, so that Barry can examine your computer and discuss your wishes before starting on your paid time. This enables him to find out whether your proposed session is possible or not, and what steps need to be taken to carry out your wishes.

FEEs start low for basic set-up of new installations, and basic Home Tuition in the common applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. They rise on a sliding scale depending on the complexity of the installation (Radio Networking), or the in-depth Tuition of the application (Creating Databases). ALL fees are quoted BEFORE attendance, and must be agreed before attendance will be considered.

Some discounts are available to persons older than me, in special circumstances on an individual by individual basis. ALL Clients are able to participate in the Bonus Scheme.

So What is available?

a) Full basic installation and set-up of  a new computer - from opening the box to the fully functioning system.

b) Basic Home Tuition in the applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Desktop publishing, the Internet, and others. (There are too many programs to list them all, hence the free discovery session prior to the first lesson)

c) More complex set-ups including Networking several computers at the same address

d) In-depth Tuition of the relevant applications

e) Problem solving in relation to existing computer installations. (Note - There is no Call-out fee for standard appointments, but a Call-out fee may apply if an emergency call out is made.  However, this will be kept to a minimum in accordance with the ethos of the Service)

Such is the nature of Computers that it is almost impossible to list every possible condition. So if you have a question that Barry may be able to help you with, then call him on 07917 103554 or send an e-mail  following this link
