Hardware and Software Problem Solving

Since a computer is a complicated piece of electronic equipment, and each program is equally an complicated set of electronic instructions it is not surprising that computers and the associated equipment develop problems.

In some instances it is quite obvious whether it is the hardware (Printers, Monitors, etc) or the software (Programs) has failed. In others, to the untrained person, it is virtually impossible to say which piece of the hardware or software has failed. And in some cases both may be related in the failure.

Solving problems associated with computers is like being a Detective conducting an investigation. Since each computer set up is unique you need to start with the situation as you find it, delve into the history of the problem and interview any witnesses who can throw light on the failure, including the computer itself. But each case is unique.

Both the hardware and the software need to be considered in any problem solving unless it is extremely obvious that one or the other is totally to blame, and even then doubts will still exist.
